From horse breeder to designer
Liaigre's furniture breaks away from France's traditional design style, much like the unconventional path of its founder, Christian Liaigre. Born in 1943 into a family of veterinarians and horse breeders in La Rochelle, he pursued his passion for woodworking in Paris, studying at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs and École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. After briefly working for the Romanian-French sculptor Constantin Brâncuși, Liaigre returned to his family's stud farm before launching his first cabinets in 1981. His dedicated studio for furniture design opened four years later.

From his earliest designs, Liaigre has been renowned for minimalist furniture designs inspired by French modernism, Asian and African art, and equestrian motifs. His work, celebrated for its elegance and simplicity, is showcased in showrooms across Paris, Munich, London, New York, Chicago, Singapore, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur. In addition to furniture, Liaigre designed prestigious hotels like the Mercer in New York and received accolades such as the Luxury Residence - Global award at the 2020 International Design & Architecture Awards. Following Christian Liaigre’s passing in 2020, his team continues his legacy through ongoing furniture production.
